St. Nectarios Church Roslindale Celebrates Golden Anniversary with a Gala Celebration
Roslindale, MA – St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church in Roslindale marked its 50th anniversary with a grand Gala on November 9th, 2024. The event, themed “Honoring the Past-Celebrating our Future,” was a celebration of the church’s milestone anniversary and the promise of the years to come.
A distinguished gathering of clergy and community members attended the gala, including His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios, the Honorable Consul General Symeno Tegos, The City Clerk of Boston, Alex Geourntas, the current Proistamenos Fr. Odisseys Drossos and Presvytera Maria, the church’s first Proistamenos, Fr. Peter Chamberas, the previous Proistamenos, Fr. Vassilios Bebis and Presvytera Chrysoula, Master of Ceremonies, Nicholas F. Kourtis Esq. and many other clergy, parishioners, supporters and friends.
In honoring the past, the following Proistamenoi are noted: Fr. Peter Chamberas, who served for 16 years and was a key figure in the church’s early years as he was instrumental in the church’s founding when he was still a layman and played a vital role in shaping its identity and Fr. Vassilios Bebis, who led the community for a collective 17 years and oversaw significant developments, including the massive iconography project. To represent the present is Fr. Odysseys Drossos; assigned to the parish in 2021 and was instrumental in initiating the completion of the iconography project, with the installation of the Platytera in the altar.
The theme of “Celebrating Our Future” was highlighted by honoring the Michaleidis family, who for over three generations have served the church. Today, their children and grandchildren continue their legacy, symbolizing the Past, Present, and Future. The Michaleidis family, along with many other dedicated families, have contributed significantly to the church’s growth and vitality.
In a significant milestone, they announced the launch of the St. Nectarios Endowment Fund, raising over $315,000 in donations. This fund will ensure the church’s financial stability for years to come, allowing it to continue its mission of spiritual growth and community service.
The gala was an opportunity to honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future. The event featured speeches from clergy and community members, numerous citations presented by the City clerk Alex Georntas on behalf of the Mayor, House of Representatives, The State Senate and The City of Boston, dancing and the wonderful raffle of a Rolex and a Cartier, which added an even more glamorous note to the celebration.
