GOYA: Greek Orthodox Youth Association
GOYA (Greek Orthodox Youth of America) is a ministry for the youth of the St. Nectarios community between the ages of 13 to 18 years-old. The mission of GOYA is to help the youth develop a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to become active sacramental members of our Church, through worship, fellowship, witness and service as laid out through the guidelines of Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. The goal of the St. Nectarios GOYA ministry is to provide a space in our parish where youth can gather and discuss topics of our Orthodox Christian Faith in the context of their lives as teenagers today, as well as a way to help facilitate supportive peer friendships among the Orthodox Christian teenagers. GOYA meets every Thursday from 7-9 pm to participate in interactive lessons and discussions about Faith, Liturgical life, and service as an Orthodox Christian. The sessions are written and run by young adults from the St. Nectarios Church who help lead the GOYA. In addition to the lessons, the group also participates in fun social outings as well as local community service, such as visiting the Philoxenia House, raising money for charity, etc. The different types of activities throughout the year help to reinforce the mission and goals of our GOYA to provide tools for the youth so that they can journey together on the road to salvation.
